Understanding Best Practices for Pain Management: Updates for the Pharmacy Team

This two-hour, online webinar aims to improve pharmacist and pharmacy staff members understanding of acute and chronic pain and the medications used to best manage pain. Expert faculty will discuss the mechanisms and burden of acute and chronic pain and evidence from current literature regarding the safety and efficacy of non-opioid and opioid analgesics. Participants will receive information on evidence-based guidelines, from organizations such as the CDC. Based on real-world experience, faculty will demonstrate ways to discuss expectations of pain management with patients, assess the safety and pain control achieved with treatment regimens, screen patients for opioid misuse or opioid use disorder, and make recommendations based on patient-centered conversations. Learners will gain skills that will help mitigate the risk of fatal and non-fatal opioid overdose and opioid use disorder in pain management treatment plans.

This ACPE-accredited continuing pharmacy education activity (UAN 0022-0000-23-011-H08-P) is designed to meet the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy continuing education regulatory requirement for pharmacists to complete CPE on the opioid epidemic or opioid use disorder as outlined in 201 KAR 2:015.
